Porfirio Diaz
If only I were Mr. Silver
Porfirio Diaz had quite a few political obligations during his life, for he was a President, a politician, a general, and a dictator. Throughout his days of power, he created a time period for Mexico known as Porfiriato , in which was when Diaz helped Mexico to become more modern and increase its economy as well. However, even though these positive effects did help Mexico, not everyone in the nation gained from these programs. This was because the upper class would benefit from these changes due to their high status and wealth, such as with factory owners since factories and production were growing it became a large contribution to why the economy started booming. However, the lower class did not gain as much as the rich, instead they had to deal even worse concepts, like slavery and working tin the factories. Although Porfirio Diaz was known to have helped modernize Mexico, he also contributed to the Mexican revolution, for in 1910 there was an election for the new ruler, in which a man named Francisco I. Madero decided to run against him. Diaz promised to run a fair election, however, when it looked like that Madero was going to win, Diaz arrested Madero so he would win the election instead, but this did not stop Madero. This caused Francisco Madero, when he was finally free, to run to the United States and claim that he won. He then recruited his followers to start up a revolution, in which would have never occurred if Diaz only ran the election fairly, but felt the need to remain in power once more.
