Long March
The Long March was a difficult journey for Chinese communists since it was
considered a retreat of about 8,000 miles from one side of China to another. This was because before the march occurred, there was a civil war between Mao Tse-tung's communists party, also known as the Red Army, and Chiang Kai-shek's nationalist government. Mao Tse-tung had his communists, trying to gain as as many followers as possible and make Communism more powerful in China. However, Chiang Kai-shek had a nationalist government for China and had the power of the military, especially since he was known to be very talented when it came to military aspects. Chiang Kai-shek was at a better advantage due to the power of his nationalist forces, for he forced the communists out of their land by his military and had them migrate to a different location. This way, the nationalists would not have to fight to rule China and be threatened by the communists. However, even though Chiang Kai-shek had intentions of decreasing the power of the communists, they actually gained followers, for as the Communist Party moved from one area to another, they spread their ideas among different towns and many people became part of their party as a result. This was because many of the people that the party visited were low class and communism appealed to them since it made them equal to higher classes, thus increasing their status and wealth. However, even though the party did receive many followers along the trip, many of the people died while going onto this tough journey, for 7 out of 10 people died in trying to reach the end of the march. Although many communists died while traveling, Communism ended up becoming more popular in many different areas of China, including the new site they relocated to after the march, especially considering the fact that China today, still contains Communism.
