The Mexican Revolution:
Mexico has had many, many revolutions in its history, but probably the most popular and well known revolution the revolution the Mexican Revolution from 1920-1920. This revolution had a large variety of causes and also had lasting effects on people from every social class and even the country as a whole.
CausesThere were many causes that led to the outbreak of the Mexican Revolution. It all started in the beginning of Porfino Diaz's reign. At first, he seemed like a very promising president and it almost seemed as if the quality in Mexico was guaranteed to improve for every citizen. With his presidensy, he brought a more stable goverment, a stronger army and got rid of crime. Many foriegn films would come and invest in Mexico.With this money, he helped with the building of telephone lines, railroads and highways. Although all these things might seem great, the only people that became wealthy were the people in power. The country itself was getting more money, but the citizens in Mexico almost saw no change economically. The people were also tired of their depending on other countries financially. There were also many people wanted to become part of the government and have a voice, but the way Diaz had set up the system didn't allow for that.
In 1908, a powerful man by the name of Francisco I Madero did not agree with the president's ways and wanted to run Diaz out of office. His views on society were also very different from Diaz'z as he believed in democracy instead of having a monopoly. By 1910 he had gathered up a lot of supporters and followers and Diaz was afraid of loosing the election. Right before the election, Diaz threw Madero in jail and Diaz continued being president. After being released, Diaz was agree with Diaz becoming the president so he created a document that called for a revolt on November 20, 1910. |
EffectsThe Mexican Revolution was the cause of the rise and falling of many leaders and and three powerful revolutionary groups helped with this, and these were lead by Pascual Orozco, Francisco "Pancho" Villa and Emiliano Zapata. They were all in control of many cities and areas. A new constitution was also approved, and it called for nationalism of foriegn owned intrests. The government also had more control over certain affairs. They set up a minimum wage for workers and gained control over the entire economy. The church land was also made property of the government. Later in 1929, the Institutional Revolutionary Party was created as a result of the Mexican Revolution. This helped with dealing with some concerns, such as dealing with the problems that some workers and buiness owners. Many of the effects from the Mexican Revolution still impact Mexico and the entire world today.
