Balfour Declaration
(The Balfour Declaration)
The Balfour Declaration was written in November 1917 after WWI. The declaration stated that Jewish poeple would be able to have a community and be supported in an area in the middle east. They set aside a place in modern day Palestine in which Jews and non Jews would both have rights. The problem being, since Arabs also sided with the Allies during the war, they assumed they would be returned the land that they lost and promised new land for helping the war effort. The Arabs were promised the land of present day Palestine aswell for siding with the Allies. This created conflict between the Jews and the Arabs. They were both promised land and neither wanted to give it up. The Arabs however could not afford to lose anymore land due to their ongoing battles with the Turks and the Germans. They were also conserned that the Jews would threaten the Arab religion.
