Armitsar Massacre
Sunday afternoon on April 13th 1919, 1,000 people gathered in the Jallianwala Bagh as a part of the Indian Freedom Movement. This was a peaceful protest against the arresting of 2 leaders of the Indian national congress. All of the protestors involved in this event were un armed and just wanted their cause to be heard. However, British general, Edward Dyer did not know this and saw the protest as a potential threat. This threat that he saw led him to have the order placed that shots were to be fired into the crowd. He placed soldiers at the only exit of the garden and had them open fire into the crowd. Over 400 people were killed and about a thousand more were severely injured. This peaceful protest turned massacre led for Indian uprising to occur all over the country and their demand for freedom from Britain. This was known as the Armitsar Massacre
